Description

"Catfishing" is a relatively new phenomenon.  As such, there are complex, and significant, psychological, ethical, and legal factors associated with evaluating both "Catfishing" perpetrators and victims. This webinar will provide in-depth information related to the conceptualization and evaluation of victims, but especially perpetrators, to assist mental health professionals to begin to navigate the "wild west" of digitalized manipulation.
Learning Objectives
1. Participants will identify predictors of Catfish perpetrators and victims.
2. Participants will discuss implications regarding the evaluation and assessment of perpetrators and victims.

3. Participants will describe testifying and legal complications regarding Catfishing cases.


Presenter(s)

Eric J. Camden, PhD,

LPC, NCC, ACS

Dr. Camden's extensive clinical journey began by supporting adolescents at the local Community Services Board. With a Master's degree in hand, he dedicated years to serving adolescents at a state acute hospital and later specialized in counseling adolescent males with intellectual disabilities at a residential treatment center. Having supervised the clinical team,

Dr. Camden now thrives in a faculty position. His research spans burnout, attachment, online deception, and advocacy for adolescents with autism and intellectual disabilities. An active member of professional counseling organizations, Dr. Camden has provided counseling to diverse clients, including catfish perpetrators, and conducted assessments for the Social Security Administration.



Derek Parker, PhD, LPC

Dr. Derek Parker, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania, boasts a rich 15-year career as a master’s level clinician, Clinical Supervisor, and agency Director. Specializing in children, adolescents, families, and addiction, his dedication extends to the emerging age adult population, addiction, and clinical supervision.

Currently serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Family Studies, Dr. Parker actively contributes to state, regional, and national conferences. His research focuses on sexual shame, emerging age adulthood, and clinical supervision. In leadership roles, he is the President of the Pennsylvania Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (PACES), Communications Co-Chairman of the North Atlantic Region Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NARACES), and a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association (JPCA).
